As Our Lady of Victory entered its Jubilee Year, a group of dedicated women decided that as a way to celebrate 50 years they would make 50 Prayer Shawls to give to people who were ill, recovering from an illness, or grieving the loss of a loved one. As the jubilee year came to a close, over 175 had been made and delivered to those needing the warmth and comfort of a loving gesture.
Along with the shawls, for the past several years, our ministry has also knitted hundreds of hats and mittens for the Housing Assistance Corporation and chemotherapy hats for the Cape Cod Hospital. They have also knitted hats for the Street Reach Program in Hyannis. Our ministry wishes thank everyone who has helped to bring such success to this mission.
Volunteers can be found every other Wednesday morning in the summer and each week in the fall and winter, in the Faith Formation Center with their knitting needles and crochet hooks, praying as they work for those who will be recipients of the beautiful shawls. They welcome anyone to join this happy group. We also encourage anyone to suggest name(s) of persons who might appreciate receiving a shawl.
Please call the Parish Office at 508.775.5744 if you are interested in serving in this ministry or receiving a shawl, or send an email to ministries@olvparish.org.
